![]() ![]() Nier’s story is shrouded in mystery, but we’d like to know more about it. We learned a lot about game progression and game play controls from our Kingdom Hearts series and took inspiration for some of our melee combat action from other successful games in the action genre. Although, this is a game, so not everything will be as it seems. At least in this game, we wanted a strong story the showcased of a family who protect each other no matter what, against impossible odds in order to try and attain a happy ending. Just as we were pondering where to begin, Cavia, creators of the Drakengard series, approached with an idea that was close to what we had envisioned.Ĭavia’s concept of the game included the action elements we were looking for, and their initial story concept really touched a nerve it seems that the news these days is full of so many sad stories about families in ruin, about parents murdering their children, and vice versa. Because of this, we wanted to design a game that featured action and combat as core elements of the game, and those elements should work hand-in-hand with our RPG and story-telling expertise as well as magical abilities to create a unique gaming experience unlike anything in our lineup. Square Enix is known around the world as a great RPG developer with several notable franchises, but even with our variety of titles, we did not have any games that had a strong action element. To find out more about their enigmatic title, we spoke with the development team at Square Enix. Very fitting that Newcastle Showground held the first National Speedway Championship anywhere in the world. It was very successful, so Newcastle Showground held the championship again in 1927. Visiting English and American racers were common, for they were highly paid showmen, often winning a year's salary in just one night. Ironically it was won by American rider Cec Brown. The first Australian Motorcycle Speedway Championship was held at Newcastle Showground in 1926. However, its first recorded motorcycle race was much earlier in 1908. The Newcastle Herald reports the Grand Opening on 14 November 1925 attracted an audience of 42,000 at that time it was approximately one-third of Newcastle's entire population. Johnnie Hoskins became the Secretary of Newcastle Speedway Ltd. These events were very successful and led to the construction of Newcastle Speedway off Darling Street, Hamilton. These pioneers introduced the Speedway signatures of No Left Footpeg and the Steel Shoe, ironically fashioned from worn coal shovels, manufactured in this Steel region.įollowing the success of Maitland, Speedway meetings were conducted at Newcastle Showground in 1924. Motorcycle racing under lights was a huge success and its promoter was New Zealand-born John S. This track had a motorcycle riding entrepreneur as its Secretary and his personal account has him inviting his friends and their associates to do a few laps one Sunday morning, the noise attracted the attention of the Showground committee and approval to race at the "Electric Light Festival" was won. One track that staged speedway, amongst others, was at the West Maitland Showground, whose first speedway meeting was staged on 15 December 1923. Motorcycle Speedway can be traced back to the early 1920s. By the early 1920s, Johns' style of cornering was followed in the United States - where it was called "Short Track Racing" - by riders such as Albert "Shrimp" Burns, Maldwyn Jones and Eddie Brinck. It was said that he would ride the entire race course wide open, throwing great showers of dirt into the air at each turn. On 13 November 1905 motorcycle racing was held at the Newcastle NSW Rugby Ground, a distance of approximately 440 yards.Īmerican rider named Don Johns was known to have used broadsiding before 1914. There is evidence to show that meetings were held on small dirt tracks in Australia and the United States before World War I. Shoebill parents will often scoop up water in their beaks and douse it on the nest to keep their eggs cool. Shoebills typically lay one to three eggs per clutch (or group) and both the male and female take turns incubating the eggs for over a month. If the nest is secluded enough, the shoebill can use it repeatedly from year to year. When the shoebill is ready to mate, it builds a nest atop floating vegetation, carefully concealing it with mounds of wet plants and twigs. Nik Borrow/Flickr Shoebills are monogamous birds yet remain solitary in nature, often wandering off to forage on their own. The process is known as “gular fluttering” and it involves pumping the upper throat muscles to release excess heat from the bird’s body. Its massive seven-inch beak is strong enough to decapitate a six-foot lungfish, so it’s no wonder why this bird is frequently compared to a dinosaur. The shoebill, or Balaeniceps rex, stands at an average height of four and a half feet. If you’ve ever seen a shoebill stork, you might have easily mistaken it for a muppet - but it’s more Sam Eagle than is Skeksis of Dark Crystal. But that’s not all that makes this so-called Death Pelican unique. This living dinosaur was beloved by the ancient Egyptians and has the power to overtake a crocodile. The giant avian is native to the swamps of Africa and is best known for its prehistoric features, in particular, its strong hollow beak which looks an awful lot like a Dutch clog. For example, the Class.isInstance method can be used to simulate the instanceof operator: Once Class information is in hand, often the next step is to ask basic questions about the Class object. In the examples below, the three steps are combined to present self contained illustrations of how to tackle specific applications using reflection. Will display a textual representation of the first method declared in String. For example, the sequence:Ĭlass c = Class.forName("") Method m = c.getDeclaredMethods() (m.toString()) Once this information is in hand, then the third step is to use the reflection API to manipulate the information. The second step is to call a method such as getDeclaredMethods, to get a list of all the methods declared by the class. The latter approach accesses the predefined TYPE field of the wrapper (such as Integer) for the fundamental type. To obtain Class information on fundamental types. One way of obtaining a Class object is to say: Class c = Class.forName("") is used to represent classes and interfaces in a running Java program. The first step is to obtain a object for the class that you want to manipulate. There are three steps that must be followed to use these classes. The reflection classes, such as Method, are found in. is a class representing a single class method. This program loads the specified class using class.forName, and then calls getDeclaredMethods to retrieve the list of methods defined in the class. ![]() That is, the method names of class are listed, along with their fully qualified parameter and return types. Sample code shows how to retrieve the component type for an array and how to set and get fields with array or enum types.Copy public ( Arrays and Enumerated Types This lesson introduces two special types of classes: arrays, which are generated at runtime, and enum types, which define unique named object instances. Examples are provided for setting and getting field values, invoking methods, and creating new instances of objects using specific constructors. Members This lesson describes how to use the Reflection APIs to find the fields, methods, and constructors of a class. Classes This lesson shows the various ways to obtain aĬlass object and use it to examine properties of a class, including its declaration and contents. Each lesson contains code examples, tips, and troubleshooting information. This trail covers common uses of reflection for accessing and manipulating classes, fields, methods, and constructors. Reflective code breaks abstractions and therefore may change behavior with upgrades of the platform. Exposure of Internals Since reflection allows code to perform operations that would be illegal in non-reflective code, such as accessing private fields and methods, the use of reflection can result in unexpected side-effects, which may render code dysfunctional and may destroy portability. This is in an important consideration for code which has to run in a restricted security context, such as in an Applet. Security Restrictions Reflection requires a runtime permission which may not be present when running under a security manager. Consequently, reflective operations have slower performance than their non-reflective counterparts, and should be avoided in sections of code which are called frequently in performance-sensitive applications. Performance Overhead Because reflection involves types that are dynamically resolved, certain Java virtual machine optimizations can not be performed. The following concerns should be kept in mind when accessing code via reflection. ![]() If it is possible to perform an operation without using reflection, then it is preferable to avoid using it. Reflection is powerful, but should not be used indiscriminately. Test harnesses can make use of reflection to systematically call a discoverable set APIs defined on a class, to insure a high level of code coverage in a test suite. Debuggers and Test Tools Debuggers need to be able to examine private members on classes. Visual development environments can benefit from making use of type information available in reflection to aid the developer in writing correct code. Class Browsers and Visual Development Environments A class browser needs to be able to enumerate the members of classes. Extensibility Features An application may make use of external, user-defined classes by creating instances of extensibility objects using their fully-qualified names. With that caveat in mind, reflection is a powerful technique and can enable applications to perform operations which would otherwise be impossible. This is a relatively advanced feature and should be used only by developers who have a strong grasp of the fundamentals of the language. Reflection is commonly used by programs which require the ability to examine or modify the runtime behavior of applications running in the Java virtual machine. |
